Terms of Use

What this site is

Sewing Mechanic is an independent reference about the mechanical parts of domestic and vintage sewing machines — presser feet, bobbins, needles, timing and the parts that make a machine sew. What we publish is reference material. It is not a repair service, and it is not professional advice about your particular machine.

Machines, hands and mains voltage

A sewing machine is a powered mechanism with a needle in it. Everything we publish assumes you have unplugged the machine before touching anything that moves, and that you stop at the point where a job needs a service technician. We describe what parts do and how to tell them apart; we do not ask you to open a motor, work on wiring, or handle anything carrying mains voltage. If a page seems to lead you there, stop and take the machine to someone qualified.

How we research

We work from manufacturer documentation, published specifications, service manuals and publicly available user reports. We do not claim hands-on testing we have not done. We do not publish invented statistics, ratings, review counts or testimonials. Where a figure cannot be traced to a source we can name, it does not go on the page.

Accuracy and change

Part numbers, compatibility and prices change, and manufacturers discontinue things without notice. We correct what we find, but we cannot promise a given page matches reality on the day you read it — check anything that matters, especially fit and price, with the manufacturer or seller before you buy. If you find something stale or wrong, tell us through the contact page; corrections get read first.

Buying a guide

We sell digital guides. Buying one gives you a personal, non-transferable licence to read it and use it for your own purposes. You may not resell it, republish it or redistribute it, whole or in part.

Payment is handled by our payment processor, which acts as merchant of record. We never see or store your card details. Delivery is immediate and digital: the payment clears and you are taken straight to the guide, which stays online for you to return to. What happens if that goes wrong is set out in our refund policy.

We do not promise that a guide will produce any particular result, and we do not sell support, consultations or diagnosis of a specific machine. What you buy is the document.
