How this site makes money
Two ways, and you should know both before you read anything else here.
- Our own guides. We write and sell digital guides. When a page recommends one of ours, we are recommending something we are paid for, and the page says so in plain words rather than burying it.
- Affiliate links. Some outbound links to parts and machines may be affiliate links. If you buy through one, the seller may pay us a commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it does not change what we say about the part.
What that does not mean
Most links on this site earn nothing at all. We link to a part because it is the part being discussed, whether or not there is a programme behind it, and plenty of the things worth knowing about a sewing machine cannot be bought from anyone.
What we will not do
We do not take payment for a favourable write-up. We do not move a product up a list because it pays more. We do not publish ratings, review counts, awards or testimonials we have not got, we do not claim to have tested a part we have not handled, and we do not invent statistics — including about our own guides, which carry no customer counts because we are not going to make one up. If a claim cannot be traced to a source we can name, it does not go on the page.
How we decide what to cover
We start from what people are actually stuck on — a foot they cannot identify, a bobbin that is almost the right size, a needle system that does not match the machine — and work from manufacturer documentation, service manuals and public user reports. Whether there is money behind a link is settled afterwards, never first.
Asking
If you want to know whether a particular link earns us anything, ask through the contact page and you will get a straight answer.
